Home Free Episode 3: The Elimination (Video Included)

Week three was a doosey! We came in as the under dogs and knew that we had to work hard to come out on top. This weeks house was pretty bad,but comparatively, not as much of an eye sore as the previous two houses.

We are tasked with building an under stair storage unit and art installation for the master bedroom. The theme for this house was urban farmhouse. Our interpretation of this was an industrial farmhouse.  The inspiration behind my gallery wall art installation was the shift from the Farming to Industrial Age. At the top you see the older rusty tools of the trade and as the gallery wall moves down you see a star with bright lights and things becoming shiny and new. The final board says “Time” which is a very literal and almost ironic display of showing how time changes things. I was overall very happy with the piece and felt like our story and execution were strong.

We worked long and hard but at the end the judges felt like it was our time to go. We were so bummed out that we were no longer going to get the opportunity to compete for a dream home. When Mike tells us that we are going to meet the deserving family we are atleast happy that we can see them.

Then he pulls out our family portrait and says we are the deserving family. It was an involuntary reaction to cry. And then I just kept crying!

When they brought out my family I just lost it! Siddiq was at a loss for words. Believe it or not he hasn’t even watched the show! He said he lived it, no need to watch it lol. He is so not an, in front of the camera person,  that it was a miracle in- and-of itself that he decided to take the chance to go on the show in the first place.

Let me tell you, we feel so blessed right now. We have received so much positive feedback that it warms my heart. It’s not everyday that you get to see the hands that crafted your house and know the love and hard work that went into it. Overall this experience was one of the hardest and stressful things that I have ever done. In the end, we are so happy that we took this leap of faith.  See the full reaction below:
