Making Time to Read with a Busy Schedule

IMG_4513.PNG

I love reading but it can be so hard to do with a busy schedule. It probably doesn’t help that I love to binge read. I’m talking about at least 100 pages at each sitting. I am in a lovely book club that meets once a month and thought that would be plenty of time to read the elected books but have found that not even that was enough. Now, I am coming up with 4 sure fire ways to read the books you want even with a busy schedule!

Book Club

1) Take your book with you wherever you go. On a busy schedule you don’t have time to block out hours to read but you might have 15-30 minutes here and there. That little time adds up!

2) Take at least 20 minutes every night before bed to read. I know, by the time the sun sets you are likely exhausted but do yourself a favor and take the time. Not only will it help you relax and wind down it will also help you get through the book.

3) Join a Book Club. This usually helps me stay on task and accountable in my reading. Plus, you get to discuss the book with others, which is my favorite.

4) Do not waste time with a book that has not piqued your interest by the first 50 pages. I love long lengthy novels. I used to read everything that I picked up, whether it captured me or not in the hopes that it would “get better”. I have learned that they don’t! Don’t waste precious time reading something you are not interested in.

Let me know what you are reading and if you have any other tips to share!

  1. Thanks so much for this post! I struggle SO much to make time to read for pleasure between my master’s program, blogging, and life. I love reading but when I have to read for school, reading for pleasure gets swept under the rug until I’m on a break. I will DEFINITELY be using these suggestions! Taking 20 minutes to read something I actually want to read before bed sounds like an excellent way to go. My husband and I could even start our own little book club and read something together :)

    1. I’m so happy that you found this post useful. I absolutely love the idea of having a mini book club with the hubz! I will be stealing that idea :)
