Somali Mall Haul

IMG_4716.PNG

Often times people ask where I get my long skirts and scarves from, and 90% of the time I say “the Somali mall”. The inquirer usually follows up their question with a blank stare because they have no idea what I’m talking about. Today I am here to shed some light on my favorite place to shop!

What I affectionately call the Somali Mall is a strip mall located at 448 N. Indian Creek Dr. Clarkston, GA 30021. There is no official name (that I know of) but you will know it when you arrive. I love this place not only because it’s pretty much the only location I can get long skirts and scarves year round, but all of the stores are owned by East African Women! I don’t mind spending my dollars here at all. So here is what I got:

I have been searching for a bag that is large enough to carry my phone and have an over the shoulder strap. Since I no longer shop at big retailers, that proved to be difficult so I was pretty happy to find this cutie.

A hijabi must have: straight pins. These will keep even the slipperiest of scarves in place!

I’m not sure what type of metal this is but it never tarneshes and the clasp never slips. I have bought so many variations of these small hoop earrings because they are the only non gold or silver earrings that don’t irritate my ears.

I always pick up a scarf (or 2 or 3) when I’m there. The one on the left was giving me all kinds of southwest, Tex Mex vibes so I snagged it up quickly. The one on the right has a turquoise, white and peach ombré effect that I can’t wait to style.

Finally. What most people come there for, the maxi skirt. There are so many skirts and dresses there that it can sometime be overwhelming to pick the right one. This one was whimsical and airy so I snatched it up.

Price breakdown:

Purse: $20

Straight pins: $2

Earrings: $5

Scarves: $5 x 2 = $10

Skirt: $15

Total spent: $52

So I walk away with a few less dollars in the ole bank account, but I am really happy with my purchases and I supported small, local businesses. What is your favorite thing that I snagged?

  1. I basically live there.
I no longer buy scarves, dresses, skirts, etc anywhere else. Comparing the prices elsewhere I would spend wayyyy more. Where else can you get a long sleeve long beautiful dress for less than $50! Abayas galore lol.
My favorite pieces of yours are the skirt and the peach and turquoise scarf!!!!

  2. Omg I love this place. They have the best, most affordable abayas there. Also haggling ftw! (Although I suck at it, my mom’s awesome at it.) the scarves are so cute and they have cute skirts/dresses. Now I just need to find a place that sells cardigans year round.

    1. They are absolutely great finding bottoms and dresses but I also need somewhere that sells nice tops. If you find one please let me know!

  3. I love this place it is a ritual when I go to Atlanta that I have to go the Somali Mall. No one can tell that my bangles are not real gold and they don’t tarnesh. Great piece probably less finds because everyone will know where they are at. I do believe that they will mail items to you if you know what you want.

    1. It is definitely a ritual for us to go here when you visit. Infuse these earrings even for the girls and they don’t irritate their ears so I love them! I didn’t know they shipped, I will look into that :)

  4. Do you know if they have jilbaabs over there? I’ve never been to this “Somali mall” and it’s quite a distance away so I don’t wanna go there and not find literally the ONE thing I’m looking for.. I’d really appreciate if you could help me out. I’m looking for either one piece, or two piece jilbaabs. Thank you!!
PS- love the scarves you got.
